Street Tree Q & A

Recommended Kayscreek Street Tree Planting List

Kayscreek Approved Street Tree List

Q) Do we need to replant our trees, can’t we change the CC&R’s to get rid of that requirement?
A) It takes a 2/3 vote to change the CC&R’s, so replanting is necessary in most situations. We
recognize that it has been a hard few months for people, though we can’t ignore our CCR’s we can
give people the time they need to replant, and we can make exceptions when replanting is
impossible. The CCR’s require one tree per lot in the park strip.
Q) Why should I replant a tree, just to have Layton city tell me to cut it down again?
A) These trees are smaller and less likely to heave a sidewalk. It is also possible that in 20 years,
when your tree is mature, Layton city will have a different approach to street trees. Street trees add
value to our homes and neighborhoods.
Q) Where do I buy these new trees?
A) We worked out a deal with J&J and we can get a 15-20% discount if we order together. Here is
the signup link where you can specify what tree you want. J&J will bring the trees in for us, and once
you pay for them, they will hold them for you until you are ready to plant. sign up HERE.
Q) Which tree should I plant?
A) We have provided a recommended list by street. Note, these are recommended and not required,
you can plant any tree off our approved tree list, which is slightly different than the Layton city
approved tree list (we removed a few trees they have on their list). There is great value in planting
the same tree along both sides of the street, it adds a visual impact that cannot be obtained with a
mixed match look. Please consider planting our recommendations.
Q) What if my neighbors and I want a different tree to be recommended for our street?
A) If you and your neighbors agree that a different tree would be best as a recommended tree for
your street, please let us know and we will update our listing. We did our best choosing trees, but
recognized people’s preference. That tree needs to come from our approved tree list.

If you have additional questions, please let us know so we can pass that along to the board. Thanks!
